I know we are all missing the milder temps from last week, fingers crossed we see more fall weather on the way soon. We are a few weeks into the school year and our Colts have done a fabulous job of starting the year with energy and excitement.
Recently, we welcomed prospective PTO volunteers during our Volunteer Fair to talk about all the great opportunities to get involved at Copeland. Studies show us that being engaged in your child’s education through volunteering leads to positive outcomes for children the world over including higher test scores, positive behavior outcomes, and a strong sense of community engagement and self-esteem. If you were not able to come out last week, check out all the info on our website at CopelandPTO.org under the ‘Volunteer’ tab.
We are so thankful to those of you who have already volunteered to take a Homeroom Coordinator position this year, and we are still in need of HRCs for the following classes- Mangum, Clement, Pugh, Wisener, Burke, Schneider, Alvarado, Perez, Hall and Scott. Please email CopelandPTOVIPS@gmail.com if you would like to help with one of these classes.
The goal of the Copeland PTO is to enrich the education of our students and to support our staff in their efforts to do the same.
You can help most by first, simply becoming a member of the PTO! For only $15, your whole family gains membership (regardless of the number of students at Copeland). Your membership dollars help fund many programs here at Copeland, but it also has great benefits for your family. Membership grants you access to our PTO directory, ensures you receive our PTO newsletters to stay up to date with school news and events, and entitles you to discounts at PTO events all year long! We also had an absolute blast with our Super Mario Coin Race last week, and boy were the students excited! Each grade level brought in their spare change to help their character racer beat the competition and finish first. Huge congrats to our Donkey Kong 3rd graders for finding the most coins on their journey down the rainbow road! We were able to raise $4,335.07 for our amazing school! All grades earned an extra recess, Kinder, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th earned a pajama dress up day, and 3rd will be duct taping Principal Berger to the wall! The excitement this past week was palpable in Copeland. It was worth every single rolled coin (80,386, in fact) to see our kids have so much fun while helping their school.
Please continue to be on the lookout for PTO updates and events as we have so much fun in store for the Fall!
The Science Resource Center provides volunteers the opportunity to to be trained to present science demos here at Copeland. Most of the demos contain live animals that our Colts can learn about. The trainings take place at the SRC, located at 11206 Telge Rd. Once you have been trained, and teachers have set the demo dates, you will be contacted by our SRC coordinator to see if you are available on Copelands scheduled dates.
These demos are a great way to participate in your child's science education!! The kids love having volunteers teach them for a day!
We are still in need of an HRC for the following classes:
PRE-K - Cunningham/Wyman
Kindergarten - Magnum/Newsome
1st - Clement
4th - Gonzales
Pugh
Wisner
5th - Burke
Schneider
ECSE - Alvarado
Perez
Life Skills - Hall
Scott/Blocker
The primary role of the HRC is to support your homeroom teacher by reaching out to your class parents/guardians to organize volunteers for classroom events, such as holiday and end-of-the-year parties, as well as for other general classroom needs. If you are able to fill this role for your child's class please reach out to Magen Hall, VIPS Coordinator, at copelandptovips@gmail.com

GARDENING CORNER
We are super excited for this year's garden education program! This year our 2nd and 3rd grade classes will participate in the garden program, learning through hands-on activities and curriculum. Our 3rd Graders kicked off the year with their first garden day on Sept. 9th, planting carrots, lettuce, radishes, brush beans and 3 pepper plants. If you would like to join the fun as a volunteer on garden days please click the link below to sign up for a time.
Working in the school garden is a fabulous addition to the school curriculum as it allows your students hands-on learning and the opportunity to see the beauty of nature's bounty.
for their incredible donation of compost to help our
Copeland gardeners grow for years to come!
Also to the families who came and helped get the garden beds ready for the new soil!
HOSPITALITY
aka WE LOVE OUR COPELAND STAFF
Each month the PTO hosts a hospitality event to show our staff how much we appreciate ALL they do for our students. These events can not be successful without the help of our community and amazing Copeland families. The teachers and staff truly appreciate these monthly treats, and we are not able to do them each month without your help!
Each month we will share the treat theme on our social media accounts, the PTO Remind, and through an email from your HRC when possible. We will have a sign up & Amazon wish list for items that we are collecting.
If you know of a business that would like to donate to one of these events, or you would like to join the Hospitality Committee please reach out to Kimberly Capers at CopelandPTOMembership@gmail.com
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Jenny Fuentes
is our
Volunteer of the Month!
If you've been inside Copeland Elementary, then you've probably seen Jenny, and she was probably in the middle of helping someone. She knows the ins and outs of the workroom just about as well as Ms Ashley herself! She is determined to do everything she can to support our wonderful staff every moment she is able. We are so lucky to have such a diligent and dedicated member of our community. Next time you see her, give her a wave!
LOGGING VOLUNTEER HOURS
Please make sure that when you volunteer you log your hours. Logging those hours could get you a prime parking spot! This helps the district and state keep up with community involvement as well as shows us who to award Volunteer of the month! Click on the button below to do so. Thank you!
Your one-time $15 family membership allows us to provide fun activities for your kids, field trips, playground equipment, classroom tools, teacher appreciation, and so much more all year!
