Wow, I cannot believe we have reached the end of the 2024-25 school year! I want to start by sharing a heartfelt ‘Thank you’ for all your support during this school year. Copeland is a wonderful school, filled with remarkable teachers and staff who work tirelessly to support and encourage our students. Through your support, via your volunteer time, support of our fundraisers, and attendance at our community events you’ve helped to create community and provide our students with amazing experiences and educational opportunities.
I also want to specifically recognize your wonderful 2024-2025 PTO board: Majesta Carraway, Deepa Ozarkar, Nicole Walker, Kimberly Capers, Joye Jackson, Magen Hall, Krystal Ashade and Brandy Clark. These wonderful women put in an immense amount of time, energy, and work into Copeland, and this year has been exceptional as a result. I want to extend a special thank you to three members of our Board who are leaving us this year as their children move onto middle school.
Deepa Ozarkar is our PTO Treasurer and is our longest serving board member. Deepa has had children at Copeland for over 10 years and has been a part of the PTO board for over 5 years. Deepa has worn many hats over her tenure with the PTO from Membership Liaison to event coordinator and most recently Treasurer. She has given so much of herself to make Copeland a wonderful place, she has a passion for serving our community and our students have been lucky to have her.
Brandy Clark has been our Science Resource Chair for as long as I can remember and she is lovingly referred to as ‘The Copeland Snake Lady’. Brandy has never met a critter she doesn’t love; her joy for educating our students about animals & reptiles has been a bright spot on campus for many years. Because of her dedication to the SRC program students in every grade level at Copeland have enjoyed hands on lessons year in and year out that have broadened their education and enriched their lives.
Joye Jackson joined our board two years ago after overhearing we needed a bit more help while working the spirit cart. Joye jumped in with both feet and brought warmth and passion to Copeland that is easy for everyone around her to feel. Our school is better because of these magnificent ladies, and we are more thankful for them than you can imagine!
The goal of the Copeland PTO is to provide educational enrichment opportunities for our students, enhance the partnership between student families and school, and support and care to those working with our children. With your help we have been able to do just that all year long! All our K-5th Grade students were able to experience an off-campus field trip this year, our 2nd and 3rd graders grew a fantastic school garden, we strengthened our community through events like Trunk or Treat and Movie Night; and celebrated our spring fundraiser with an epic play day! If you have not yet done so, please consider joining our mission and getting involved as a volunteer. We have opportunities of all shapes and sizes; based at home, in school, or around special events. Getting involved is a great way to show your child you are invested in their education, and I can guarantee you will not regret it. Copeland is truly special, and it takes all of us to keep it that way.
I want to congratulate our 5th grade families moving on from Copeland. We hope you know ‘Once a Colt, Always a Colt’, and we wish you the best in your move to middle school. I hope all our families and staff have a fantastic summer.
Til next year,
Laurie Alexander
Copeland PTO President
Order Your 25-26 School Supplies
Imagine it's August 1 and you realize school starts in 12 days and you haven't purchased a single Tichonderoga pencil. We have all been there! Instead of checking lists and tracking down that red 3 subject spiral notebook that every store seems to be out of, or comparing prices to make sure you get the best deal, check out the most cost-effective option:
EPI curates these packages with all the supplies your teachers have specifically picked out. Not only is it the cheapest option when you crunch the numbers, but it is delivered directly to your student's classroom before school starts. So you and your kid(s) don't need to lug a sack full of supplies on the first day of school! It's a win-win-win scenario here! Thanks EPI for making it such an easy process!
The end of the year is upon us, and so are the End of Year class parties on May 29th! Please make sure to look for those emails from your HRCs to know how to help finish the year with as much fun as possible.
Beach Bash
The children who chose to purchase the PBIS Beach Bash with their CARE cash will participate in an awesome day of fun with games and water play on Friday, May 23rd.
We need many volunteers to help make this day a success for our kiddos. Please see the link below to sign up!
We finished our last Spirit Cart with an absolute bang! Thank you so much for making our little school market a success. Our kids love shopping, planning, saving, and learning about money with real life experience.

SCIENCE RESOURCE CENTER
aka: the Snake Lady
Thank you so much for all your help with science demos this year! You made it possible for kids to see science up close. I'm so honored to have helped them learn about animals, see their excitement, overcome fears, and love these animals in a safe environment. The Snake Lady is officially retiring since I am moving on to middle school as my youngest child is graduating 5th grade. I will always love this special school, and I'm sure I'll be back to visit!
Your child will bring their book home in their backpack during the last week of school! Thank you for all the Copeland memories!
GARDENING CORNER
aka Gardeners in Training
Our gardeners haven't slowed down at all with the end of the year approaching. They have been planting right up until the last minute.
Because of that, our wonderful school garden will need care and attention over the summer break to ensure its health. We would love to see our Copeland students enjoy time in the garden throughout the summer twice a week. If you have a bit of time please consider signing up to pull a few weeds and enjoy the garden bounty by heading home with a bit of the harvest. We thank you in advance for your support!
for their incredible donation of compost to help our
Copeland gardeners grow for years to come!
HOSPITALITY
aka WE LOVE OUR COPELAND STAFF
To kick off May we had a totally rad Staff Appreciation Week. Between May 5th and May 9th the Copeland Staff went back in time to the 90’s era! All week they had fun with 90’s trivia and enjoyed some far out neon 90’s decorations.
Monday we celebrated Cinco De Mayo with an outrageous Taco Bar from Tavo’s Mexican Grill on Fry Rd. Tuesday we kicked off our day at Central Perk with coffee and muffins from First Watch Towne Lake. Wednesday we ate like kids again with our DIY Lunchable Station from Graze Craze on Queenston, HEB at Tuckerton, and Jason’s Deli in Copperfield. Thursday we cooled down with our Ice Ice Baby Hydration Station. Staff were also treated to a Chillax Bar where they created their own self care goodie bag. Friday we ended the week with an amazing Baked Potato Bar donated by our friends at Bayou City Fellowship Church from Creekwood Grill on Telge.
We all know how hard our Copeland Teachers & Staff work to make our school such an amazing experience for our students. We could not have put on this week full of appreciation without ALL our amazing donors and volunteers. Our Copeland families and community partners really stepped up in all the ways to help. We want to thank everyone who took time to shop, chop, donate items, serve food, wash dishes, decorate and so much more, you truly showed how #ColtsCare!
Thank you so much,
The Hospitality Committee
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Shawn Lapina
is our
Volunteer of the Month!
Shawn is no stranger to Copeland. With her youngest of 6 being the last one at Copeland, she has spent more time in these walls than most since her beginning in 2007, and serving beside the most amazing people made it an enjoyable thing to do with her precious time. You'll probably recognize her from helping frequently in the library and during the book fair. She also braves the critters and helps with animal demos. Is there anything she can't do?!
Shawn, we are so grateful for the way you serve our school! Enjoy your short walk to the front door from your sweet sweet parking spot up front for all the end-of-year activities, and also for the beginning few weeks of the 25-26 year!
