President's Corner

My dear Copeland friends,

I hope it's okay if I call you that. I honestly don't know where I would be this year without this community's support. It has been the hardest year of my life for many reasons (none of which is serving as President - hehe), but my family here at Copeland, whether the staff, admin, families, students, and especially our PTO Board, has come through for me over and over.

I hope each of you feels the unique special atmosphere we and our kids have here at Copeland, and if you have not yet, please consider getting involved as a volunteer. I can guarantee you will not regret it. Copeland is truly special, and it takes all of us to make it that way.

I want to specifically recognize this year's board: Laurie Alexander, Rebecca Bintcliffe, Majesta Carraway, LaKishia Edwards, Cecilia Fernandez, Magen Hall, Deepa Ozarkar, and Robin Sovie. Had these ladies not been there to back me up when I was unable to serve in the way I would like, most (if not all) of the awesome work you've seen from the PTO would not have been completed. They are truly the ones who moved mountains this year. These ladies are amazing, and I hope each of you gets to know them better.

Specifically, I want to be sure that you all know that Laurie Alexander almost single-handedly managed to obtain the donations that put us over the top to be able to order our new playground equipment and accompanying shade. You all are in excellent hands with her as President next year. She works constantly to ensure our students and staff have nothing but the best. The best way you can support these efforts is first by being a member of PTO, second by volunteering your time when you can, and third by helping your student to raise funds to support the many programs, events, and purchases the PTO handles.

I wish the absolute best to all of our 5th grade families moving on from Copeland. We hope you leave with hoofprints in your hearts. I hope all of our families (and maybe especially staff) have a fantastic summer.

Thank you for allowing me to serve in this position for two years. It has been an honor and mostly a joy. ;-) I will still be around as a parent, volunteer, and avid PTO supporter for another year, so please don't hesitate to call on me if you need me!

With many Colt hugs,

Valerie Effinger

Garden

It has been another wonderful year in the garden. The 3rd graders worked so hard all year long and it shows. We ended our time in the garden with a sunny day harvesting potatoes and planting sweet potatoes for the incoming 3rd grade class. The kids enjoyed bug hunting and found some interesting garden life including snakes, an emerging moth from a chrysalis, and lots worms!

Congratulations to all the 3rd graders for their amazing work this year!!

Volunteer of the Month

Janine Zener is our Volunteer of the Month!

Janine has worked tirelessly with Ms. Buchert to make every book fair for the last several years a successful effort for the library and TONS of fun for the kids. She is involved with all of her kids at three different schools, and still takes the time to take this special care of our Colts!

Thanks for your service and your beautiful, contagious smile, Janine!

Science Resource Center

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!

The demos and field trips sponsored by the SRC require a lot of volunteers, and YOU, Copeland Parents, stepped up and made it happen! I am grateful to all of you for the time and energy you put into giving our Colts these fun events!

The Science Resource Center is working on updating some of the demos and improving the training schedule for our 23-24 school year, so we have some great things to look forward to.

I look forward to working with all of you again next year!

Please remember, the animals still need care during the summer, and the SRC is always accepting donations. Here is a link to their need list.

Did you know that Blue Willow Bookshop sponsors our lovely library and its events?

Keep your family reading all summer long by visiting them online or stop by their store to look around and say hi!

Every single moment of time, item donated, and support you gave made an impact on the students and staff this school year. We could not keep Copeland such a wonderful and loving place without the support and involvement from you and we look forward to seeing you again this next year.

We want to send a special shout out to all of the amazing businesses that donated to our Movie Night silent auction. Your support and generosity helped us raise money for our wonderful school and we are so grateful!

Please be sure to head on out and support these wonderful businesses and let them know how thankful we are for their continued support in our community.
