Thanks so much for reading our newsletter. We always hope you find it helpful!
We are back rested and ready for the rest of the year. How is it possible we are over halfway through? We have a lot of really exciting events and activities coming up this spring, and we hope you'll be a part of them!
Thanks so much for your support always, and we want you to know our big Spring Fundraiser is quickly approaching! We are looking forward to the shade for our newest equipment we ordered being placed sometime in early spring (we ordered months ago, so we're trying to wait patiently)! ;-) You may not be aware, but our largest piece of playground equipment that is now decades old has been "condemned" by the district. It's been repaired to the extent it can be and now must be removed, whether we have the funds to replace it or not. You all know we have been saving, and we've done great, but we are not quite there with our fundraising for the new equipment.
Did you know that the district/state funds do not cover anything for playground equipment? Did you know that a new piece of equipment similar in size to what is there costs somewhere in the $100,000 range? WOW! We are working hard, but we need your help. For our kids to have something to play on, we've got to get our hustle on! Be creative with the fundraiser next month! Ask for donations from employers, local businesses, and more! Let's all band together and try to push to that new equipment! We kick off February 1, so let's work hard!
I want to remind you to please submit your wonderful pics of school activities for our yearbook! We always hope to feature the biggest variety of students possible, but we can only work with the pictures we receive from YOU! So want to see your darling child's face more in the yearbook, submit your pics! Also, PLEASE, PLEASE order your child's yearbook. We do not order extras, so only those who order them before the deadline will be guaranteed a copy. We ALWAYS have disappointed kids and parents at the end of the year when they did not order a yearbook. Get yours TODAY!
Finally, as we enter the second half of the year, I want to reach out to you personally to ask in what area you might be available and willing to help out PTO. We have some board positions that will be opening up after this year, as well as chairman positions. We will update you more in the coming months, but please feel free to reach out if you think there is an area in which you can help! We want everyone to be involved in one way or another, and board and or chair positions don't always mean a big time commitment in the middle of the workday.
Thanks again for reading and helping out as you always do.
If you are available to help with our monthly Spirit Cart,
we would appreciate it very much.
Thank you for always being there for our Colts! Sign up here!
Volunteer of the Month
Elizabeth Read is our Volunteer of the Month! She is our gardening chair and helps nurture our 3rd grade students along with their garden! She kept the plants warm and protected over winter break, so I encourage you to take a peek next time you're on campus to see how beautiful it is.
Thank you, Liz, for all of your time and support for our Copeland Colts!
Garden
Kicking off 2023 out in the garden! After the freeze during the holiday break the kids had some cleaning up to do in the garden but it is still going strong. The 3rd graders cleared out damaged leaves and a few plants that didn’t survive the cold weather. But even after the chilly temps we still had a lot to harvest! Students were able to take home broccoli, cauliflower and kale.
Our next garden day is 1/24 and 2/7.
Parents, please help your child dress appropriately for our changing weather as we spend the class time outdoors.
Volunteer Opportunities
We love our Copeland Volunteers! We have so many fun ways to help out at our school. Listed below are descriptions of each role still available as well as who to contact if interested. We would greatly appreciate the help!
Thank you for donating to this month's staff appreciation luncheon! They were all so thankful for the healthy treats. We couldn't spoil our Copeland staff as well if not for donations and volunteers like you!
Science Resource Center
Do you enjoy science? Handling animals? This may be the volunteer opportunity for you!
The Science Resource Center offers trainings to volunteers for grade specific science demos.
We have so many trainings and science demos coming up in the next few months!
These Demos aren't possible without our amazing parents taking their time to get trained and presenting to our Colts.
There are the demos coming up in the next 2 months:
Our Copeland Library is the heartbeat of our school, and we have a special family of volunteers who help keep it running! Our volunteers help students check out books and shelve the books for other students to enjoy. We'd love for you to join us. We'll have a training for all our new volunteers and get you on the schedule to help our wonderful students experience the joy of reading!
Your one-time $12 family membership allows us to provide fun activities for your kids, field trips, playground equipment, classroom tools, teacher appreciation, and so much more all year!
Please make sure that when you volunteer you log your hours. This helps the district and state keep up with community involvement as well as shows us who to award Volunteer of the month! Click on the button below to do so. Thank you!
